Jill

November 13, 2007 — November 11, 2020

Jill, aka Jellybean, aka Weansie

Jill was three years old when we brought her home from a bulldog rescue organization. We did not know many details about her past, but it shaped her into the protective dog that she was. She always made sure that other people and dogs kept a safe distance from us. In her own way, she helped prepare our neighborhood for dealing with COVID-19. Although she made sure that everyone kept their distance when we were outside, in the home she was a gracious hostess, warm and welcoming to anyone crossing our threshold.  She loved to entertain, and always knew when we were going to have people over.  She would run around eagerly, sensing the excitement.  When our guests arrived, she would run to her toy box and bring out one of her rawhides, showing off one of her most valuable possessions.  She would also keep an eye open for anything yummy left unguarded on the coffee table.

Jill loved to go for long walks, and always knew how to find her way home. We always took treats with us on our walks, and she would let us know when she did something deserving of one. This occurred surprisingly often.  To her last day she loved rolling in the grass.   As she got older, the walks became shorter and slower.  Eventually, we would just go outside, take care of any pressing business, then sit and take in the air.

Our dog had a tremendous sweet tooth, although to be honest she loved all food except for cucumbers.  When we started working at home, she soon realized that Tim would bring a donut or cookie into the office each morning.  She soon began to position herself next to the desk when Tim entered in order to share the snack.  She also loved caramel corn, smoked salmon, apples, chicken and pizza crust.

Jill was constantly told by people that she was beautiful. They were right.  She had a very expressive face and a constant smile. She was a great companion, full of life, love, and charm. She brightened our lives immeasurably and we miss her dearly.
